To say that Leonard Pitt is a man of many interests is a vast understatement. He has written numerous books and been everything from a graphic artist to a mime. He studied mask theatre in Bali and founded Eco-Rap, an environmental education program for inner city youth.

Leonard is well know for his days in Paris when he collected the postcards featured in his book Paris Postcards – The Golden Age. You may not know, however, that he was raised in Detroit and over the years has also assembled a collection of vintage postcards from that once thriving city. Upon giving this collection a closer look he realized that there was a great story there, chronicling a city that was once the capitol of the industrialized world.

Join Leonard in this look back at images of Detroit in the first 50 years of the 20th century. Using his actor’s ability he’ll bring to life stories of a time when the city was bursting with pride, a fascinating counterpoint with the Detroit in the news today.
Reception with thematic goodies to follow the performance.

Sunday, April 27th, 2-4 pm at the fantastic new South Branch of the Berkeley Public Library.
