Author Katie Hafner returns in 2014 for a tea party where the sweets are served up with irony, insight and wit. Ms. Hafner’s sixth book – Mother Daughter Me- is a highly acclaimed memoir in which she recounts her experiment in intergenerational living. By turns heartbreaking, funny and insightful, her brave and loving book addresses questions about families that are meaningful to us all.

When Ms. Hafner urged her mother to move to San Francisco to live with her and her teenage daughter, she had an idyllic vision of a year during which the three of them would become close friends. The intergenerational experiment, however, turned out to be filled with landmines including painful memories of their difficult past together. It was a challenging, turbulent yet ultimately healing time for all three of them.

Journalist and author Katie Hafner writes primarily about technology. For nearly a decade she wrote for the New York Times’s Circuits section and has also written for Newsweek, Esquire and Wired. In 2010 she was one of our honored authors for her biography of Glenn Gould, A Romance on Three Legs. Your ticket to this event will include a copy of Mother Daughter Me, which you can read and discuss with the author over tea and treats at the Berkeley home of Sophie Hahn and Erik Bjerkholt.

Sunday, March 16th, 11 am – 1 pm.
