In Holding Silvan: A Brief Life, Monica Wesolowska tells the story of giving birth to her first child who suffers severe brain damage during birth. Destined to die, the baby lingers for 38 days and Wesolowska and her husband fit a lifetime of loving into that time. The book was named one of Best Books of 2013 by Library Journal. Wesolowska, a Reed College graduate, teaches writing courses at UC Berkeley Extension. She lives in Berkeley with her husband and two sons.
