Dan Krauss’ first film, The Death of Kevin Carter, was nominated for an academy Award and two Emmy Awards. Krauss has since worked on films for PBS, HBO, National Geographic and numerous others. His latest film, The Kill Team, had its world premiere at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival where it won Best Documentary Feature.
The Kill Team is the story of a young American soldier in Afghanistan who attempted to alert the military to horrific atrocities being committed by U.S. soldiers. In 2010 these soldiers intentionally killed civilians, planting weapons on their victims to cover up their actions. Filmmaker Krauss follows the moral dilemma of the whistleblower, Spc. Adam Winfield, as he is forced to choose between moral priorities with no good outcomes. Variety says that “[m]any will regard this chilling war-is-hell expose as must-see viewing.”
Mr. Krauss earned his Master’s Degree from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he was recently a visiting lecturer. We are fortunate to have him in Berkeley for this special event, where he will be on hand to answer questions after the screening (running time 79 minutes). The film will be shown in the intimate private screening room of Daniel and Hilary Goldstines’ Berkeley home. The evening will begin with a reception featuring gourmet delights provided by Le Petit Cochon.
Thursday, April 3rd at 7:00 pm.
