Although Berkeley can claim Christopher Hawthorne as a native son, these days he lives and works in L.A., where he has gained acclaim as the architecture critic for the Los Angeles Times. In this capacity he writes about new and old buildings, sustainability, planning, transit and the lives of cities. He looks at buildings not as isolated works of art but as part of the urban fabric. He is also the co-author of The Green House: New Directions in Sustainable Architecture (2010) and has written for The New York Times, The New Yorker and many other publications.
It’s hard to imagine someone better prepared to guide your group through San Francisco’s dynamic South of Market district, now home to a vast array of artistic and cultural spaces as well as tech companies and new urban homes. Christopher Hawthorne will make a special trip to the Bay Area for this fascinating outing. He’s a lively speaker and a great teacher and has led a number of well-received walking tours. You’ll get a whole new perspective on the expanding San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), the Jewish Museum and Twitter headquarters, along with the new construction that the arrival of Twitter has spawned in the area.
With a gift certificate of $350 your party will enjoy lunch with Mr. Hawthorne at nearby MoMo’s, a landmark San Francisco dining destination serving American bistro cuisine.
Date to be arranged with Mr. Hawthorne.
Must be used in 2014.
